VisibleResults Installation - Firebird |
You must have a working TCP/IP configuration before starting this step. If PING localhost in the previous step did not work then DO NOT continue until you have fixed the configuration.
If you have not received VisibleResults on CDROM you will need to download Firebird from the Internet.
Firebird is available from it's own project on SourceForge (at http;//sourceforge.net/projects/firebird). However, to make things simple we have made a copy of Firebird available from the VisibleResults project. To download you need to visit http://sourceforge.net/projects/visibleresults with your Web Browser.
On the Summary page for VisibleResults you will see a section titled "Latest File releases", within that you will see a line for "Vr-JavaApp-Win" Version "v1.8". Click the "Download" link at the right of this line. From the "Visibleresults - Files" page download Firebird by clicking "fbinst_0_9-4_prod_2000_12_29-1.exe". Save this to a temporary directory on your hard disk.
If you have a VisibleResults CDROM you will find on it the same file "fbinst_0_9-4_prod_2000_12_29-1.exe".
Run the program "fbinst_0_9-4_prod_2000_12_29-1.exe", you can do this by finding it using Windows Explorer and then Double-Clicking it with your mouse left button. The installation will then start.
Click "Yes"
Click "next"

Change if you wish, then click "Next"
Click "Install"
Click "Next"
Click Finish
Firebird will have now started, but it will not yet restart when your computer starts up. To do this we need to put the program "ibserver.exe" from Firebird into your startup folder.
Open Windows Explorer, select the folder "c:\Program Files\Firebird\bin" (if you installed Firebird to a different folder then select that).
Now to add the program ibserver.exe to the startup menu. Left click the file "ibserver.exe" and drag it onto the "Start" button on your taskbar. Wait until the menu appears, then drag "ibserver.exe" over "Programs", then over "Startup", then to the side of setup, and let go. You should now see a shortcut to IBServer.exe in your startup folder.
You should now have a new icon in the task tray (next to the clock, usually at the bottom of your screen). This icon will appear automatically each time your computer is started to show that the Firebird server is running. |
